African American woman artist Carlotta Swain Ward

Mostly self-taught,through exploration of her own vivid imagination, she is a leader in the rapidly growing movement of African American Artists. Carlotta wrote "My challenge is to capture the attributes of a people. My intention is to heighten the awareness of the viewers, draw them away from misconceptions and bring them up to a level of high esteem...for all mankind"
